Do you supply packaging or packaged products to the Czech Republic without being established here?
We handle packaging compliance as a whole – from setting up the right data and processes to meeting EKO-KOM requirements and complying with PPWR. We tailor every solution to how your company actually works, so that it is accurate, clear and sustainable in the long term.
Who needs an authorised representative
The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) introduces a separate role of authorised representative for extended producer responsibility. Under Article 45(3) PPWR, producers covered by this provision must appoint, by written mandate, an authorised representative in each Member State where they make packaging or packaged products available for the first time and in which they are not established. If you supply packaging or packaged products to the Czech Republic from abroad, you may therefore be required to appoint an authorised representative for EPR in the Czech Republic.
What we do for you
An authorised representative for EPR must be established in the Czech Republic and is mandated by the producer to fulfil its extended producer responsibility obligations. As part of our service, we take on this role for the Czech market and help you with the related registration, administration and reporting. Under PPWR, the authorised representative may, under the conditions set by the Member State, fulfil on the producer’s behalf the registration and reporting obligations under Article 44, including submitting the required information and notifying changes to the registration details.
How registration with EKO-KOM works
In the Czech Republic, EKO-KOM already runs its own process for the authorised representation of foreign producers in its collective compliance scheme. According to the procedure currently published by EKO-KOM, the authorised representative registers first, followed by the foreign producer. A contract is then concluded between the producer, the authorised representative and EKO-KOM. Once the contract is completed and the applicable fee is paid, the producer is assigned an EPR registration number.
Representation after registration
The role of the authorised representative does not end with registration. Within the EKO-KOM system, the representative receives requests to submit quarterly packaging reports, the related invoices and any reminders, and represents the producer during audits. A foreign producer thus has a single local point of contact and administration for its EPR obligations in the Czech Republic.
